The shorkk essentials are an ideal gift for the discerning cook, where flavour and taste is what it’s all about. We are proud to be importing these iconic Lebanese ingredients to the UK.   Zejd’s extra virgin olive oil with its gently peppery aftertaste is the perfect way of sampling Bassatin Baanoub‘s za’atar mix. Zejd‘s sumac is citrusy and zingy. Scatter over soup, fish and eggs or see our recipe section for ideas.

About shorkk essentials

shorkk bag of flavour

A gift bag of iconic Lebanese ingredients. We love watching customers’ faces as they sample Zejd’s sumac at the events we go to. The raised eyebrows remind us of the difference between a supermarket variety of sumac and a Lebanese brand. Scatter it over fried eggs, roll a quail’s egg in it, add it to biscuits and you’ll soon see!

Za’atar mix is the key ingredient in a za’atar manoushé in Lebanon. Bassatin Baanoub‘s fragrant blend is made of Origanum syriacum, sumac, sesame seeds with a little salt. Delicious dusted on a piece of grilled salmon, this aromatic mix also makes a tasty addition to a cheesy sablé. Just the thing as an aperitif with a glass of something chilled. What will you add the za’atar mix to?

a special gift

Lebanese EVOO, which has a tiny global market, is hard to come by in the UK which we discovered during covid. Zejd‘s “souri” olive groves are in Akkar, in the north of Lebanon. They produce a mono-varietal extra virgin olive oil which is gently fruity.

We are proud to be working with Zejd as they continue to produce oil from a variety of olives native to the eastern Mediterranean.

The tin also makes a great vase!
