About the shorkk essentials and Mezze

Beautiful Lebanese gifts only available in the UK through our website, the shorkk essentials and Mezze, reflect the best of Lebanon. We imported Barbara Massaad’s cook book Mezze, after the sell out talk we arranged for her in Bristol in October 2022. Those who came were keen to buy Mezze which wasn’t available in the UK at the time.  We’re delighted that the cook book is now exclusively available in the UK through shorkk.

In Barbara’s cookery demo at Papadeli in Bristol, she showed us the secrets behind Lebanese recipes like muhammara and tabbouleh. Authentic ingredients are essential in these dishes. Zejd’s extra virgin olive oil, wrapped in gold tissue and Zejd’s pomegranate molasses, wrapped in black tissue paper, are key ingredients. Lebanese recipes use the spice sumac to deliver citrusy notes to salads, like fattoush. Zejd’s sumac is also delicious sprinkled on fried eggs. Those who have tasted it at our market stall love its zingy flavour. Finally, Zejd’s saffron, grown in the Bekaa Valley, comes in a tiny bag, made by the Tahaddi sewing workshop, Beirut. Have a go at making saffron buns, or perhaps put your feet up with a cup of olive leaf infusion and a slice of pangiallo.

We’ve included a gift card of a “namlieh“, a Lebanese larder, designed by our daughter Zelfa. The gifts are presented in a white cardboard box tied with a red ribbon.
