a bag with a difference
Although we know everyone has a tote bag, the shorkk tote is different. Co-owner of shorkk, Philippe, teamed up with the Tahaddi sewing workshop in Beirut, to design something for those who are tote connoisseurs.
never lose your keys again
Unlike other totes, this one has a handy inside pocket for keys and a phone. Luckily your days of searching for the essentials in life amid your shopping are gone!
Local fabric shops in Beirut have donated remnants to Tahaddi. This allows them to make something from nothing which they can sell to earn an income.
sturdy yet soft
We asked the team to create something that could carry heavy things from the market – think 3L of Zejd’s extra virgin olive oil, Barbara Abdeni Massaad’s Mezze cookbook and for good measure something small – a jar of saffron.
The shoulder straps are wide, for comfort, and strong enough to carry your market purchases. The bottom of the bag has a reinforced gusset for extra strength too. There’s even room for the little bag of saffron as well as your keys and your phone in the inside pocket too!
Zelfa el Khazen has designed the shorkk logo which adorns the bag.
On a trip to Beirut in 2022, we visited Tahaddi’s workshop in the suburbs and learnt more about the sewing team. Many of them are the sole income providers for their families. They were delighted to hear how many people admired their bags in the UK! So if you know someone who has been complaining about how their free tote bag has given way under the weight of their shopping, perhaps they need the shorkk tote as a present?
