We know everyone has a tote bag, but the shorkk tote is different. If you are looking for something well made, from soft but sturdy fabric with a handy inside pocket for keys and a phone, this has to be the one!
Co-owner of shorkk, Philippe, teamed up with the Tahaddi sewing workshop in Beirut, to design something for those who are tote connoisseurs. Made from local cotton donated by fabric shops in Beirut, we asked the team to create something that could carry heavy things from the market – think 3L of Zejd’s extra virgin olive oil, Barbara Abdeni Massaad’s Mezze cookbook and a bottle of Zejd’s pomegranate molasses. Hey presto – the shorkk tote! The shoulder straps are wide, for comfort, and strong enough to carry your market purchases. The bottom of the bag has a reinforced gusset for extra strength too. A useful inside pocket means that you will not have to search for your keys and phone underneath your shopping ever again. As parents, we’re particularly proud of the shorkk logo on the front designed by our daughter Zelfa. Understated chic!
On a recent trip to Beirut, we visited Tahaddi’s workshop in the suburbs and learnt more about the sewing team. Many of them are the sole income providers for their families. They were delighted to hear how many people admired their bags in the UK! So if you know someone who has been complaining about how their free tote bag has given way under the weight of their shopping, might we gently suggest the shorkk tote as a solution! Not surprisingly, free tote bags don’t last forever.
Dimensions of bag: L 35cm x H 37 cm x W 8cm
