Tahaddi sewing workshop
A tote bag with a difference. Designed by Philippe, co-owner of shorkk, and Nathalie Bechara, director of the Tahaddi sewing workshop. It is made from soft, yet sturdy local cotton donated by a Beirut business to enable them to earn an income. Handmade by women in the suburbs of Beirut, who as refugees might not otherwise have a job.
The Tahaddi Organisation is an NGO founded to support vulnerable families providing medical care and education to their community. Since 2011, the group has welcomed many Syrian refugees and provides education for the growing number of children who are out of school. The sewing workshop was set up to teach mothers a skill and provide a degree of normality to their lives. The money they make is shared amongst themselves.
While we need to cover our costs, half of the price of the bag is being donated to the sewing workshop. We hope this will encourage them to continue making such good quality products. And we look forward to working on future projects with them.
