Shorkk joined Impact Lebanon's community meet-up in London last week. A great evening, despite being freezing outside, it was warm and buzzing inside! So nice meeting the Lebanese community, offering a taste of home with Zejd's green cracked souri olives, and a cup of hot olive leaf infusion.

Up-cycled Lebanese plastic in Dundee

A positive story from Lebanon makes a welcome change. Ahla Fawda, a Lebanese NGO, brought their up-cycled plastic tote bags to the V&A in Dundee this week. They were invited to accompany the exhibition Plastic: Remaking Our World.

Imane Nasreddine Assaf, the dynamic founder of the NGO, talked about her project to Dundee students. In Beirut, Ahla Fawda encourage people to donate their recyclable household waste and in exchange receive food, clothes, furniture and medicine. An exchange which restores dignity.

The waste products are then turned into an object with a second life. Some of these made their way to Dundee this week to be sold.
