the shorkk tote

We know everyone has a tote bag, but this one is special! Firstly there are only 10 left! Half the price of the bag goes directly to the women in Beirut who made them, find out more about them here. So if you're needing a new bag over the summer, we'd love you to buy ours! Our online shop will be closed for the last 2 weeks of July, so sooner is better than later for tote shopping!

There are three recipes below for you to try. An intriguing lentil dish with Zejd's saffron adapted from a recipe featured in the Financial Times from a 13th century Andalusian cookbook . Something a bit more summery, pesto, for which we've used Lebanese pine nuts. Have a look at the recipe to see the sad state of affairs regarding Lebanon's pine trees. Finally, a cake made with Zejd's extra virgin olive oil, served with lemon curd and summer berries, a simple but splendid addition to a summer table.

We will be visiting Lebanon as a family for the first time in 4 years, and although the excitement mounts, there's also nervousness about the changes in a country so affected by the present economic crisis. If you're needing anything from our online store, we'd be grateful if you could order by the end of next week. If you come to the markets in Bristol, please see below for the dates we'll be there.

WINE BLAST

Lebanon in a podcast

Wine, good chat and travelling in an armchair - it's all in the latest podcast from Wine Blast. It's a great listen. The chat revolves around wine in Lebanon and North Africa. Having recently visited Lebanon, Peter's enthusiasm for the country and the wine is palpable. As he says, Lebanon needs visitors, so if you're on the hunt for an unforgettable holiday, Lebanon is for you!

Thank you...

...to everyone who came and supported us at Max Minerva's book event with Kalpna Woolf. Inspiring to hear how Kalpna's work in 91 Ways is shaping Bristol's many communities around food, now all beautifully illustrated in her new book Eat,Share,Love.
And what a coincidence that when she was behind Nigel Slater's wonderful BBC programme on Lebanon!
