souk el salam

Last Sunday at St James's Church Piccadilly we helped raise over £18,000 for the Amos Trust and Medical Aid for Palestinians. The money was sent to Gaza the next day to buy food to feed people in Gaza.
The shorkk tote, always popular with Londoners, made by Tahaddi, an NGO fighting poverty in Lebanon, was put to good use. Shoppers keen on buying a real taste of Lebanon were pleased to have a sturdy bag to take their wares home.
Safia Shakarchi took a great photo of the shorkk team and the shorkk tote to make the day even more memorable!

Cheltenham Food Festival

We're hoping it's going to be sunny this weekend for our first time at the Cheltenham Food and Drink Festival. To make it easier for people to spot us, our gazebo will be sporting this new wrap-around banner!

There are cheese & wine masterclasses as well as cookery demos and plenty of good things to eat.

We'll be in the artisan producers area, stand F43, where you can taste all our Lebanese ingredients for free!

Armenian cooking

Lebanon has more refugees per capita per square kilometre than any other country in the world. While this brings a degree of complications to the country, it is a positive force in the realms of food.

We wanted to share this article about Armenian cooking in Lebanon written as part of a series in L'Orient Today on the influence of migrant cultures on food.

football!

We were able to make a donation to Najdeh Association so that a group of 120 children from Borj el Barajneh Palestinian camp in Beirut had a day out.

Even though the weather in Beirut was unseasonably hot, the children were not going to miss a chance of playing football.

We're very grateful to Sania Khalil, from Najdeh Association, for making it happen. Keep supporting us, and we can keep supporting them!
With tension mounting in Lebanon due to an escalation of attacks in the south by Israel a day out like this is invaluable.

recipe of the week

an easy cake for the weekend

With a bit of luck the sun will have ripened British strawberries this week, so here’s a simple recipe for a cake to go alongside.

It’s a ricotta citrus cake made with Zejd’s extra virgin olive oil which means no food mixer is needed. If you don’t have ricotta, try it with greek-style yoghurt – it works too!
