coming to the end of our year

It's been quite a year. Navigating a small business in the UK while our thoughts have been focused on Lebanon and the region, has not been without its ups and downs. Thanks to you, we have found a community of people who love the ingredients we import from Zejd and Bassatin Baanoub and are interested in what we do. Thank you!

With the weather cancelling some markets recently, we're very grateful for your online orders as this means we can continue to build up our donation for Buzuruna Juzuruna, the agroecology farm in the Bekaa valley.

Walid Al Youssef, a Syrian who is co-founder of Buzuruna Juzuruna, pictured here sorting lentils on the farm in Saadnayel Bekaa valley, features in Philippe Pernot's article: Buzuruna Juzuruna: a haven of solidarity in times of war.
Despite the cataclysmic events in the region, the wonderful team at Zejd have been able to put our new order together. This year's 2024 extra virgin olive oil will be shipped in the coming weeks and we'll keep you updated on its arrival from Beirut.

gifting ideas

Zejd's sun-dried tomatoes go well with a Christmas cheese board. So we've added them to a hamper, along with a bottle of Zejd's chilli infused olive oil (not too spicy, great drizzled on soup) and Bassatin Baanoub's za'atar mix and oregano.

stocking fillers

Huge on flavour, Zejd's pomegranate tapenade makes a handy stocking filler. For those who like to keep warm and hydrated in the winter, Zejd's soothing olive leaf infusion is just the thing.

Christmas florentines

Chocolate florentines with pomegranate molasses is a great recipe if you're looking to make biscuits as gifts this year. They're delicious even without the chocolate coating.

We recycled our tin of Zejd's olive leaf infusion and managed to fit 6 inside (7 without chocolate coating!)

Bassatin Baanoub's za'atar mix makes a tasty finish to these moreish buttery biscuits.

Aida Returns

The Bristol Palestine Film Festival have rescheduled Aida Returns, the film by Lebanese Palestinian film maker Carol Mansour.

Having been cancelled because of the storm, it will now be shown at the Watershed in Bristol on Friday 13th December at 6pm.

Bristol is one of only 4 cities in the UK to have a Palestine Film Festival. This year's selection of films was rewarding and informative. See their website for the list of films, some of which can be seen online.
Two films which stood out were Tomorrow's Freedom by Sophia & Georgia Scott and Thank You For Banking With Us by Laila Abbas.
